House in Rathmines

This fine Edwardian house is in poor repair but remains largely intact. Extensive damp to the rear lower ground floor generated a design strategy of a new Irish limestone ground surface; the datum of which is set by the existing raised ground floor.  Connections between the sunken limestone rear and the restored front rooms are established via a recurring theme of sliding partitions and walls which disappear behind integrated shelving and storage.  To the garden, two sets of 3m high triple glazed sliding doors slip behind into a solid wall transforming the lower ground floor to a semi-outdoor space where stone lined surfaces extend from inside to outside.
